Gulftainer became truly global in early 2007 when, the company's joint venture with the Al Marwan company was issued an operating licence to manage all stevedoring and warehousing in the port of Moroni, Grande Comoros. Having just celebrated thirty years in the port industry, Gulftainer proved it had the ambition and resources to continue expanding by not only starting its first venture in the Southern hemisphere, but also developing the general cargo side of its port management business. Since that time there have been many developments; progress in Moroni Port has been substantial with enhanced working hours, better productivity and improved standards of equipment all making a significant difference to both port users and their customers. |

To take a closer look at Gulftainer's operations in the Comoros, located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Eastern Africa, and to thank staff for their efforts, Director and General Manager Peter Richards visited the island group in April. He was able to meet with the Republic's President Sambi and Vice President Nadhoim to thank them for the co-operation of the Comoros Government and to discuss the implementation of Gulftainer's contract for the management of Mutsamudu Port on Anjouan Island later this year. Mr.Richards commented: "with a lot of hard work, from both our staff and many organisations in the Comoros, we have managed to achieve a major turnaround in performance and efficiency in Moroni to the benefit of the company and the Comorian people. We hope to continue this process in Mutsamudu soon." |

Exporters and importers to and from Mumbai (JNPT), Karachi and Mundra as well as Muscat, now have more reasons to celebrate with the start of a new weekly container service calling at Gulftainer's Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT). Highlighting the call of the 1000 teu/ 13,500 DWT 'Harmony" operated by Orient Shipping on the 29th March, Terminal Manager Paul Hennessy made a presentation to Captain Arthur L. Roco of the ship with Orient Shipping General Manager Howard James in attendance. Mr. Hennessy commented, "We are delighted that this new service will allow exporters and importers the opportunity to service Mumbai/ Karachi and Mundra using the SCT gateway for the UAE. |

As everyone knows, our Terminal in Sharjah, in addition to our other option via Khorfakkan, allows faster and cheaper distribution in and out of the UAE market - and Orient's decision to call at SCT is yet more evidence of the pressure from traders to have better alternatives available forthem to use, to cope with a road infrastructure that is throughout the UAE under severe strain and is likely to remain so. We will certainly ensure that Orient and their customers get the fast, efficient service for which SCT is now justifiably famous." |
