Fujairah Career Fair 2008

Fujairah Career Fair

The annual Fujairah Career Fair 2008 was inaugurated on the 14th of May 2008 at Fujairah Men's College and as usual, Gulftainer Company Ltd participated, as they have done since the event's inception. The occasion is intended as an opportunity to highlight to the young men and women of the UAE east coast's higher colleges, the employment opportunities provided by large companies and organisations throughout the region.

The day also provided a chance for companies such as Gulftainer to showcase their achievements and activities - particularly to young people who are as yet unfamiliar with the business world. The Gulftainer stand accessible and well located displayed brochures, company CDs, a film about the company as well as the usual 'Focus' magazines and application forms.

To welcome enquiries and to talk about Gulftainer and the Ports and Logistics business was a sizeable team consisting of Mr. Mohammad Al Serkal and Mr. Omar Khatab from the marketing department plus Mr. Stephen Moss, Ms. Hiba Khamis Ali R Albedai, Mr. Ali Ahmed Mubarak AAA and Ms. Khawla Ali Al Hosany from Khorfakkan Terminal office.

6th Gulf Maritime Exhibition

Sharjah-based Gulftainer, the operator of the Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) and the Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT), was actively involved in the participation and sponsorship of the 6th Gulf Maritime Exhibition, which was held from April 21 to April 23, 2008, at Sharjah Expo Centre in the heart of Sharjah.

The three-day exhibition, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, was organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and is now a well established event in the region.

Peter Richards, Gulftainer Director and General Manager said: "The outstanding growth in volumes in container and general cargo at Khorfakkan and Sharjah port over the last three years prompted us to accelerate our new services to achieve our goals of delivering the highest levels of customer service and efficiency throughout the company, here and overseas.

The market demands and customer needs have been constantly changing, requiring us to make timely investments that will help us in efficiently handling large volumes of business," added Mr.Richards.

Gulftainer also decided to exhibit because the Gulf Maritime Exhibition is one of the most credible and highly effective maritime trade platforms capable of meeting the complete sourcing requirements of the commercial, government, leisure, and military maritime industry in the Middle East .

Prop Pit Stop

Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) is well used to handling sizeable vessels regularly in these days where container ships are growing in capacity and length year by year.

However, the berthing, albeit briefly, of a VLCC 'supertanker' was still an unusual event and took place in May to discharge a large propeller using the terminal's quay cranes.

VLCC ' Tiara'

As KCT is widely recognised as perhaps the world's fastest container terminal, this single piece did not take long to discharge, but provided an interesting diversion in the busy container working day.

For interest - the VLCC 'Tiara' is 295,000 DWT and the propeller weighed 45 tons with an 8.5 metre diameter.
