Gulftainer joins Arab Forum for Environment and Development.

Sharjah based Gulftainer, one of the region's principal terminal operators, have announced that they have been accepted into the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) as a corporate member.

Gulftainer's acceptance into the organization has been due to its impressive track record in its environmental policies and initiatives. AFED, a pan-Arab civil society initiative, is a consortium of corporate leaders, NGO's, media and experts and government agencies dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development in the Middle East.

Approved by the League of Arab States (LAS) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) the forum aims at spreading environmental awareness through promoting sensible information and education programmes, as well as supporting civil society organizations that are active in the environmental sector.

"As newly appointed members of AFED, Gulftainer will actively support the goals and missions of this forum and participate in its programmes." said Gulftainer Director & General Manager Peter Richards. "Our joining this organization is timely, as the issues of global warming and concerns about the effect development is having on both the local and global scale are now at the forefront of everyone’s agenda."

Controlling terminals and ports on both sides of the UAE, the firm's operations extend from the Gulf, to Asia and beyond with a range of services that make it one of the most important logistics entities in the region, significantly impacting both the local and regional shipping and container sectors.

"As part of our development as a growing organization, we have always endeavored to contribute to the protection and preservation of the environment, thus we are pleased to be surrounded by likeminded individuals and organizations who as members of the Arab Forum for Environment Development, are sharing the same ideals , Peter Richards added.
