8 Mar 2017

Gulftainer, the world’s largest privately owned independent terminal operating and logistics company, has received the prestigious CIO 100 award 2017 from Computer News Middle East (CNME) magazine for the third consecutive year. Vinay Sharma, Group IT Head at Gulftainer, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the annual CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony held at The Ritz-Carlton JBR in Dubai.

Now in its third year, the CIO 100 awards honour business leaders across the Middle East who have set a benchmark of excellence in implementing innovative information technology. The judging panel selected this year’s winners from a pool of nearly 350 applicants based on the measurable impact of cutting-edge technologies on their business performance.

Praising Gulftainer’s achievement, Jeevan Thankappan, Group Editor of the Technology and Finance Division at CPI Media Group, said: “Every year, the CIO 100 awards recognise 100 companies and individuals who have shown great commitment in adapting new technologies to fuel further success in their organisations. We congratulate Gulftainer on its remarkable accomplishments in this field.”

For his part, Vinay Sharma said: “It is a great honour to accept the CIO 100 award for the third year in a row, and I extend my sincere gratitude to CNME for this valuable commendation. I also want to take this opportunity to thank the entire IT team and senior management at Gulftainer, who have made this achievement possible. In view of our continued efforts to stay ahead of the technology curve through enhancing our operating processes and customer service, we are extremely proud to receive industry recognition for this aspect of our work.”

Flemming Dalgaard, CEO of Gulftainer, spoke about the value of the awards: “At Gulftainer, we truly believe that hiring and developing the right people is vital to the success of our company. You can bring in the best technology available, but you still need good people to manage it. Vinay is one of many such high potentials in Gulftainer and has rightfully received recognition for his achievements.”

Recent milestones in Gulftainer’s information technology transformation strategy include the implementation of SAP’s new-generation S/4HANA business suite as well as the state-of-the-art Marine and Container Handling (MACH) Terminal Operating System (TOS). Both platforms are set to significantly advance the company’s operational excellence through streamlining key business processes and increasing terminal productivity.
