APL Emirates Managing Director, Jakob Hansen has praised Gulftainer and Sharjah Port Authority in the aftermath of the fire at Port Khalid on 18th August. Despite the blaze guttering the port's oil storage facility, the firm's vessel, the APL Shenzhen, continued with its scheduled call at the harbor.

'After a close coordination between APL, the terminal operator, Gulftainer and Sharjah Port Authority, we were reassured that the situation was being well managed and the port would be able to handle our vessel safely and with the usual high levels of efficiency.' said Jakob Hansen.

After its call at Port Khalid, the APL Shenzhen departed on schedule at 3pm on 19th August, following an incident free operation at the Gulftainer terminal.

Jakob Hansen added. 'At all times, Sharjah Port Authority and Gulftainer managed the situation calmly, competently and with the utmost professionalism. They also proactively kept us informed as the incident played out.

'We wish to express our sincere thanks to Sharjah Port Authority and to Gulftainer for their efforts to ensure APL can continue to call and operate with confidence at Port Khalid.'
