Gulftainer continues to undertake additional social responsibilities and is increasingly gaining the respect of the communities in which we now work. This vision is embedded within our organization and every Gulftainer family member is aware of their responsibility towards their society and environment.

Can private companies solve world problems? Do they have an obligation to try?

As individuals, we strive to be better human beings. What if we channel those individual quests into the collective good of the society? The idea that corporations can – and should – work toward solving some of the world’s most challenging problems such as climate change, poverty and disease is at the core of a corporate social responsibility or CSR strategy. In this regard, each employee becomes a corporate citizen pursuing sustainable goals laid out by the organisation’s CSR policy.

Although not under the banner of CSR, Gulftainer has a long history of strongly caring for the communities it influences - be it the famous “Save the turtle” campaign in partnership with the Emirates Wildlife Society, numerous philanthropic donations to groups which specialise in assisting disabled or disadvantaged children and young adults,  or an employee led campaign supported by World Food Program for Tsunami relief fund.

In addition to the Company’s existing links with global entities such as EWS_WWF (Emirates Wildlife Society_World Wildlife Fund) and the UN Global Compact. Gulftainer is one of the  founder members of Pearl Initiative, a Gulf business–led organisation promoting a corporate culture of accountability and transparency as a driver of competitiveness and sustainable economic growth across the Persian Gulf region of the Middle East.


In 2016, Gulftainer reworked its long-established CSR policy to align it with United Nation’s 17 global sustainability goals to bring it more in line with the company’s corporate strategy. This policy now focuses on four core business elements and as its main pillars –

  1. Environment
  2. Employability
  3. Health and Safety
  4. Corporate Governance.

 Gulftainer’s CSR policy is identified on the basis of aligning the basic operations of Gulftainer and its subsidiaries to connect with its internal (Employees, shareholders) and external (communities in general) stakeholders.
