4th ‘Golftainer’ Sharjah Classic Helps Haiti Relief Fund

Nuttall: Gulftainer to make substantial donation to the World Food Programme based on multiples of winner's score.

Leading regional port management and logistics firm, Gulftainer, held its 4th annual 'Golftainer Sharjah Classic' golf day on Sunday 24 January 2009 at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club and managed to combine an excellent sporting get-together with a worthy cause as Gulftainer linked its annual Golf day with the opportunity to contribute to Haiti relief fund efforts.

The event witnessed a good turnout from enthusiastic golfers from - predominantly - the group's shipping line customers, who enjoyed a day of sport and camaraderie at one of the Emirate's premier golf courses.

In perfect weather and on roughs, greens and fairways in superb condition the golfers birdied and bogeyed their way round the problems posed by the challenging grass course with a pragmatic combination of seriousness and levity .

The standard of golf on show inevitably covered a wide range from 'excellent' to 'tolerable', but what was consistent was the great spirit in which all the matches were played and the enjoyment derived by all participants from a morning 'out on the greens'.

At the awards ceremony and lunch held in SGSC's splendid clubhouse facilities later in the day, Gulftainer group Commercial Manager Keith Nuttall thanked the weary yet relaxed competitors for their participation and presented prizes in various categories.

Overall runner-up was Captain Leslie Reis of OEL, while the overall winner was Mr Han-il Bae of Hyundai.

In his concluding remarks, Mr Nuttall reflected on the recent tragic events in Haiti and announced that as a contribution to the appeal for funds Gulftainer would make a substantial donation to the World Food Programme based on multiples of the winner's score.
