In support of the community, and in line with its corporate social responsibility policy, August 2011 saw Sharjah-based international ports management company Gulftainer make a donation to the Khorfakkan Club for the Handicapped, allowing physically challenged children to travel to Mecca to perform Umrah during the final days of the Holy month of Ramadan.

The Khorfakkan Club for the Handicapped was selected as a recipient of the donation because of its location in the company's ‘hometown’ of Khorfakkan, where Gulftainer's flagship container terminal – considered the fastest in the world – is situated.

The donation was handed over during a presentation at the Club, attended by Gulftainer representatives Ed Finbow (KCT Terminal Manager), Mustafa Raouf (KCT PRO), Ali Al-Fathi (Senior Commercial Executive), Haider Abod (Business Development Executive) and Nigel Hope(Safety Officer), as well as Miss Aisha Mohammed (KHC Secretary), Mr Thamer Ibrahim(KHC General Manager) from the Club.

Speaking of the decision to make the donation, Gulftainer Group Managing Director, Peter Richards said, "At Gulftainer we continue to take our social responsibility role seriously, particularly in the areas where we operate. A good relationship with the local community is a cornerstone of Gulftainer's policy throughout the world, and nowhere is this more true than in our hometown of Khorfakkan. The holy month of Ramadan is a time for charity and giving back to the community, to those less fortunate than ourselves, and what better way to do this than to enable physically challenged children to make the journey to Mecca to make Umrah".

Gulftainer Group has 35 years experience operating in the UAE and around the world. In addition to operating two UAE ports on behalf of the Sharjah Port Authority – SCT and Khorfakkan Container Terminal – Gulftainer also has a number of projects and investments in several countries, including Iraq, Pakistan, Brazil and Turkey, as well as in Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Gulftainer's logistics subsidiary, Momentum Logistics, was established in 2008 to take over the Group's transportation and logistics business and has offices throughout the Middle East.
